Donald has provided us with so much inspiration both through his astounding energy and his insightful and informed views of our Canada National Deaf Hockey team. Former Executive Director of the CDSA Kim Rizzi also has tremendous respects for McKee. She once described Donald is a “Generalissimo” who take in charge of our hockey team moving forward, then our success will be takes care of itself. Donald McKee has been with our team since September 2010 and he also received several awards over his long career in ice hockey from junior to professional level. He also served as Assistant Coach to Team Canada that won gold at the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland in 1997. In 1998, Donald received the Gordon Juckes Award for Development in Canadian Hockey. McKee is a Level 4 certified coach and served on many provincial and national coaching organizations. He is also instructor/evaluator for the Hockey Canada National Coaching Certification Program. McKee is married to Shirley, a retired teacher. The couple has two children; daughter Margo is a teacher and son Phillip who is the Executive Director of the Ontario Hockey Federation. The Canadian Deaf Ice Hockey Federation together with the coaching staff and management are proud to annouce the roster of players who will compete for gold at the 2nd World Deaf Hockey Championships in Vantaa, Finland March 30th to April 6th of 2013. The process began in Edmonton, Alberta at the Canada Deaf Games where players showed there skills and played for the Roy Hysen Cup. It was an intense weekend of hockey and the coaching staff and management had a number of great players to choose from. Players were selected from this tournament to attend a selection camp in Toronto at the new Mattamy Athletic Centre on the campus of Ryerson University. The August selection camp was a huge success and players had the added bonus of skating under the old roof of the former Maple Leaf Gardens. The camp was intense and the level of play was very high which made for some tough decisions for the coaching staff. |
